Though my two years living on Deer Isle is hardly enough to claim full knowledge of every single local farmstand (or smallscale foodmaker), I’ve settled on a list of hard favorites for folks that like to buy directly from their growers/makers. I love to cook with inspiring, earth-friendly ingredients, and half the fun is to find them. I am excluding grocery/general stores in this post. Our area is full of amazing growers and makers, so if I’ve missed any favorites, please let me know in the comments and I’ll happily add on!
On Deer Isle:
73 Reach Rd, Deer Isle, ME 04627 tel: 207-348-2601 Mid June to Mid October, Tuesday-Saturday 10am - 5pm Certified Organic
My favorite farm stand on Deer Isle: Eric Ziner and Missy (Melissa) Greene’s farm store boasts an array of farm-grown organic produce, their award winning goat milk cheeses - both fresh and aged, true greek style yogurt, goat milk gelato, cajeta, (goat milk caramel) their organic skin creams, goat milk soaps, cookies, breads, blueberry balsamic vinegar and more. Their locally sourced products include: Rainbow Farm Pasture Raised Chicken, Pork, & Beef, Organic Maple Syrup, Tinder Hearth Breads, Locally harvested seaweeds, etc.
Starbird Farmstand
The farmstand wasn’t open the past two seasons, so I haven’t been yet, but this one looks very promising and is re-opening! I think the address is 88 Burnt Cove Rd, Stonington

(Everything from Maine Made Pasta, to snacks and gifts). We include products from 20 different Maine makers, as well as my favorites from further afield.

88 North Stonington Rd, Stonington, ME, United States, Maine (207) 367-5100 marsden.brewer@yahoo.com
Marsden Brewer, third generation Maine fisherman, has been fishing all his life, whether it’s what he calls low water urchining, scalloping, or off shore ground fishing, shrimping and lobstering. His farmed scallops are an incredible operation (which he learned from the Japanese), and if you’re lucky you might be able to buy some from him directly.
10 Tidal Cove Road Stonington, Maine 04681 (off Airport)
Another fantastic aquaculture operation, Abby Barrows is on a mission to eliminate plastic from her oyster farming operation. Order direct, and pick up from her stand, or find them shucking oysters at various local events.

In 1948 fifteen lobstermen joined together and established the Stonington Lobster Cooperative to serve local fishermen buying and selling their lobster. Pick your live lobster from this Coop located right on the Stonington working waterfront.

Not exactly a farmstand, but one of my favorite local organizations, the mission of the Brooklin Food Corps is to cultivate a resilient and sustainable food system in our community by exchanging knowledge and resources, and by fostering the joy of growing food. They accomplish this through maintaining a community garden, organizing growing and cooking educational programs for all ages, and creating opportunities to provide tools, seeds, seedlings, and produce for one another.
Including a Seed Library, Monthly Crop Swaps, Compost Sales, and incredible workshops, I recommend you sign up to their newsletter and get involved!

I adore this farm, which is absolutely impeccable, and has an adorable farmstand. I am thinking they might not be open this year, but I’m not sure. (Grapevine…)
609 Weir Cove Harborside, Maine 04642 Farmstand: Saturdays 8 AM - Noon for the season.
A commercial market garden and working farm in Harborside, Maine producing vegetables and flowers year-round. An internationally recognized model of small-scale sustainable REALORGANIC agriculture. I haven’t been to the farm since a change of management, but what I have seen is impeccable, absolutely flawless produce — with a long line of cars which are allowed in one by one to the farmstand. A bit of a drive from Deer Isle, but very much worth the trip. I recommend arriving early.
