I’m trying something new. For years we created recipe cards to go with the farm boxes we delivered across SoCal. Since our new Stonington Maine popup shop is next door to the Stonington farmers market, I thought it would be fun to send people into the market to find the fresh seasonal ingredients needed to cook a series of recipe cards we will produce through the farmers market season, to pair with some of our favorite pantry ingredients (which we have been collecting for the season). Like a scavenger hunt. As the season develops, the game will become increasingly interesting!
The recipes this week are the following, focusing on early spring greens — and rhubarb — and use pantry items we have in the shop, with farmers market produce to pair together:
Gigante Bean Soup with Spring Greens (featuring Regen Organic Simpli Gigante Beans, If & When Lemon Paste, Jenin Olive Oil, Slack Tide Sea Salt)
Spring Greens & Walnut Pesto Pasta (featuring our new Walnuts for the Watershed, Amolitta Pasta, Jenin Olive Oil, Slack Tide Sea Salt)
Pancakes with Rhubarb Compote and Honey (featuring Maine Grains Pancake Mix, Appalachian Sourwood Honey, Slack Tide Sea Salt)
Early Spring Grazing Board (featuring Da Rocha Sardines & Mackerel, Salt & Twine Salami, Maine Crisp Crackers, obligatory Salt & EVOO)
If you’re thinking of taking part in this experiment — below are the recipe cards. The Stonington Farmers market takes place Friday from 10 AM - 12 noon. I hope to see you there!
How it works:
I will list the farmers market ingredients to find for each recipe on our big blackboard, and leave it outside our shop, near the farmers market, for ease of reference.
Once you have your ingredients, you can come find us in the popup shop inside the elementary school (the farmers market is in the parking lot), and we will have the recipe cards and pantry items you need to cook the recipe.
Excited to play this game and can’t wait to see what folks create. Send us your photos! (And let me know if you have questions.)
Yum! Waving hello from Greece mother mother-daughter trip!
